Purpose of the Master Breeder Program:
It is the purpose and intent of The National Classic Frill Club (NCFC) to grant the high honors of “Master Breeder” (Superior and Grand) to individuals who are exceptional breeders and exhibitors of Classic Frill Pigeons.
Note: A certified NCFC Master Breeder is authorized to wear/display the NCFC “Master Breeder” status. Successful members will be honored with appropriate awards and recognized in the club newsletter.
Members seeking to be certified “Master Breeder” by the NCFC must meet the following qualifications:
1. The applicant must be a member of the NCFC for 5 years and show Classic Frills for a period of not less than 5 years. The Master Breeder program seeks to reward active breeders who participate in NCFC shows and who maintain and promote Classic Frill Breed Standards.
Background: 5 years of active breeding and showing is the minimum. Circumstances such as the covid pandemic, bird flu or other factors which cancel shows or destroy pigeon populations may prevent an applicant from achieving consecutive show years. Previously awarded points are archived, and new points may be added for reactivated members. The MB Points Coordinator will remove inactive or past members to an inactive list and only list active member points in lists / newsletters.
2. The title “Master Breeder” is open to all members who accumulate 1,000 points and consistently represent the high standards of this program.
Accumulated points must include 5 Champions or Reserve Champions in NCFC approved meets with 3 of these wins at the National Level.
Additional achievement levels have been established to encourage continued participation beyond 1,000 points.
Master Breeder levels:
>Master Breeder = 1,000 points NCFC Master Breeder Certification
>Superior Master Breeder = 3000 points
>Grand Master Breeder = 5,000 points
The requirement of 5 champions or reserve champions means Classic Frill Champion or Reserve Champion (1st Reserve). Placement as 2nd or 3rd Reserve and down does not fill this requirement. Champion and reserve champion winners will be tracked and recorded by the MB Points Coordinator from submitted show reports.
3. National Level Events: Classic Frill National Level events must meet the following Standards:
3a. Level 5 participation (76 and up) birds in attendance.
3b. At least 6 exhibitors.
3c. Show details and judge approved in advance by the NCFC.
3d. Show report submitted listing judge, exhibitors & birds
All show events which meet NCFC National Level Standards (level 5) or National Titled shows (National Young Bird Show – NYBS or National Pigeon Association Grand National Show) may qualify as a “national show” extending to all members coast to coast and beyond an equal opportunity to achieve “Master Breeder” status.
Note: An “approved” NCFC meet is any traditional Classic Frill event. Any proposed new show which meets participation levels and standards may be approved and qualify for MB points by contacting NCFC presidents and District Directors with details.
4. NCFC District Shows must meet the following minimum standards:
4a. Must have at least 3 Classic Frill exhibitors
4b. Points are awarded based on point level (see 6a below)
4c. Show report submitted listing judge, exhibitors, and birds
5. General Requirements and Standards: applicable to all NCFC Shows.
5a. MB Points will be awarded only to Classic Frills breed and shown by the Master Breeder applicant as reported on the show report.
5b. Only Classic Frills of high-quality which represent breed standards should be entered for competition.
5c. Only birds with proper size seamless bands within one size of the listed breed size (9 for classic frills) will be eligible to receive MB points. No split bands or oversized bands are allowed. Absentee birds will not count towards required birds in attendance.
Background: Previously, Absentee Exhibitors were excluded from NCFC competition. Circumstances such as poor health, pressing obligations, and travel restrictions may be taken into account for exhibitors who wish to compete but are unable to attend in person. Many all-breed shows accept birds shipped in for competition.
Champion Points - Color Class Points
6. Champion Point System: Champions and Reserve Champions receive one point for each bird beat in the show. The number of birds in attendance determines show level and how many points the champion/reserve receive.
6a. The following levels determine how many placings receive points.
Level 1 – 3 to 15 birds – Champion awarded points
Level 2 – 16 to 25 birds – Champion & Reserve Champion awarded points
Level 3 – 26 to 55 birds – Champ, Res, & 2nd Res awarded points
Level 4 – 56 to 75 birds – Champ, Res, 2nd & 3rd Res awarded points
Level 5 - (National) 76 birds & up - Champ, 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Res receive pts
6b. Champion Points Example 1: (50 birds in the show, level 3)
With 50 birds entered, Champion, 1st and 2nd Reserve receive pts.
> The Champion gets 49 points
> Reserve Champion gets 48 points
> 2nd Reserve Champion gets 47 points
> 3rd and 4th Reserves - no points
6c. Champion Points Example 2: (*National level 5, 85 birds)
> Champion gets 84 points
> Reserve Champion gets 83 points
> 2nd Reserve gets 82 points
> 3rd Reserve gets 81 points
> 4th Reserve gets 80 points
Note: It is perfectly fine to select and name all placings in any level show but the number of places and MB points are determined by the number of birds in attendance.
7. Best of Color Points: BOC, 1 point for each bird beat in the color class.
7a. A Color Class is: Birds of all ages and both sexes of the same color.
> Example: All Black Lace Satinettes of all ages and both sexes.
Each color class would include all birds of the same color in 4 age groups: YH, YC, OH, and OC.
7b. A Color Group is: Birds of the same age, sex and color.
> Example: A color group would be the Black Lace Satinette Young Hens. The next color group would be the Black Lace Satinette Young Cocks, then Old Hens and finally Old Cocks.
7c. Judging procedure: Color group judging begins with competition between birds of same color, sex and age (black lace YH, then YC, then OH, and finally OC). The best of each of these 4 age/color groups are then judged to determine Color Class winner or Best of Color (BOC).
7d. Best of Color (BOC): The bird judged best of the 4 age color groups is the Color Class winner or BOC. Only the BOC receives points. Within the color class, 2nd, 3rd & etc. receive no points.
> Example: 20 birds in the color class, BOC winner gets 19 points.
Each bird can only receive one set of points per show. If a bird wins Best of Color and continues on to win Champion, only the
Champion Points will be awarded. When a Champion, 1st, 2nd, etc., is selected from a color class, the bird which placed 2nd does not
advance to receive color class points.
Note: The Master Breeder (MB) Points Coordinator and MB Points Auditor will track and verify qualified points. Point totals will be reported to the Club Secretary to record, archive and publish in the newsletter. As accumulated points reach each achievement level, the MB Points Coordinator will notify the Club Secretary who will verify reports and inform the Board of Directors. If all requirements have been met Master Breeder status and certification will be awarded.
8. Combining Color Groups for Competition:
A Stand-Alone entry is: A bird which is the only bird entered in a color group. The Member in Charge and/or the Show Secretary, may consult the exhibitor of a lone bird and combine stand-alone birds with similar color groups to create competition and increase possible MB points.
> Example 1: In a show, there is only 1 Satinette Bluette YC, & 1 Satinette Silverette OH. These may be combined to create competition and 1 BOC point.
> Example 2: A lone Brown Blondinette could be added to the Black Blondinettes to create competition and more points available.
> Example 3: If there is only one Satinette Black Lace entered, it could be combined with the Satinette Brown Lace color class to create competition.
